Ochs was founder of the Philharmonischer Chor in 1882 and, in that capacity, was a close associate of Von Bulow, among others. He gave first and early German performances of works by Bruckner, Wolf, and Brahms, and was the first conductor ever to record a work by Schütz (Saul, Saul, was verfolgst du mich?).
