Collection of 3 original drawings by Hubert de Givenchy for the Bolshoi Ballet production of Martha Clarke’s The Garden of Villandry, made for the ballerina Ekaterina Maximova. 8 x 11.5 inches ( 20.32 x 29.2 cm) to 11.5 x 16 inches (29.2 x 40.6 cm). 

In 1999, a Gala in honor of Maximova's 60th birthday was held in the Bolshoi Theater. Maximova performed in the Gardens of Villandry that was choreographed by Martha Clarke in her honor.  The celebrated Soviet and Russian dancer was prima ballerina of the Bolshoi Theatre for 30 years. 

The French aristocrat and fashion designer founded The House of Givenchy in 1952 and is celebrated in particular for having designed much of the personal and professional wardrobe of Audrey Hepburn, as well as clothing for clients such as Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy. He was named to the International Best Dressed List Hall of Fame in 1970.

Provenance: Gifted by the designer to Valérie Golovitser, who represented the Bolshoi in New York and was liason for the designer in Russia. Their connections are further recorded in the biography of the designer Hubert de Givenchy: Entre Vies et Legendes, by Jean-Noël Liaut, p. 288.
