Ansermet, Ernst. (1883-1969). Early Signed Photograph. A rare early signed photograph from the conductor who from 1915 to 1923 was conductor for Diaghilev’s Ballet Russe. This remarkable original photograph was signed and inscribed by Ansermet in 1917, when he was only 32 years old and before he had founded the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. Ansermet was closely involved with most of the leading composers of the first half of the century and during World War I, he met Stravinsky and began a lifelong association with Russian music. When the present photograph was signed, Ansermet had yet to conduct the premieres for which he is best remembered, including Stravinsky's "Histoire du Soldat" (1918), "Pulcinella" (1920), "Les Noces" (1923) or De Falla's "The Three-Cornered Hat." (1919).



One heavy horizontal crease across image, priced accordingly. Signed additionally by the photographer and mounted to 16 X 24 cm overall.
