Brahms, Johannes. (1833–1897). Zwei Trios für Pianoforte, Violine und Violoncell nach den Sextetten für Streichinstrumente Op. 18 und Op. 36... bearbeitet von Theodor Kirchner- INITIALED BY BRAHMS. Bln. : N. Simrock. 1883.

PN 8332/33. Each part underlined in blue pencil by the composer on the cover. McCorkle p. 66 and 133. Each first editions of this version. Regarding op. 18, McCorkle confirms "this edition was reviewed before publication by Brahms (Briefe XI S. 18f.)," noting the letter from Brahms to Fritz Simrock on March 13, 1883 in Vienna in which he says "the trio gives me extraordinary pleasure! Did you have the idea, if so I congratulate, but Kirchner has executed also splendidly..." On the cover over our copy of the Trio No. 2 , the composer has added his initials ("J.B..") in blue pencil and has also underlined the printed part designations on the covers. This is evidently the very copy which he was sent for review.
