[Ballets Russes] Lifar, Serge. (1905-1986). Important Original Signed Drawing. La Vie en Images de Serge Lifar. First edition. Paris: R. A. Correa, 1937. Softcover, 9 x 11 inches. Signed in fountain pen on the first free end page by Lifar, who adds a remarkable full page original ink drawing of a scroll bearing three smaller sketches of dancers and choreographic directions, set against a mountain and setting sun, dated Paris 1937. In fine condition, with some light mirroring of sketch to inside front cover, rough bottom edge of signed page, some moderately heavy creasing to spine, and a bit of scattered light soiling and creasing to covers.

A highly unusual item from the choreographer and dancer in Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. Later, he became director of the Paris Opera Ballet (1929) and there created over 50 ballets, including the path-breaking "Icare" (1935), which was written to be danced without music.
