A remarkable original cloth flag measuring 16 x 11 inches affixed to a 15 inch inch (partial, with splinters at bottom) wooden rod, evidently a survival from one of the parades given for the American pianist who won worldwide recognition in 1958 after winning the first International Tchaikovsky Piano Competition in Moscow, at the height of the Cold War. On his return, the pianist rode in the back of a convertible through the streets of NY and other major cities and was greeted by thousands of adoring fans following his Moscow triumph. In fine condition, the only one of these we've ever encountered.
