Galamian, Ivan. (1903 - 1981) [Gallo, Frank. (b. 1933)]. Original Portrait Bust of Paganini. A remarkable and striking sculpture bust of Paganini, commissioned by the American String Teachers Association and given to the influential violin pedagogue as the "Outstanding Master Teacher Award" in 1966. Originally obtained directly from Galamian's estate.
A finely wrought apoxy on resin and fiberglass sculpture by artist, Frank Gallo, signed "Gallo 66." Bust screws into a wooden stand with a panel which reads: "IVAN GALAMIAN / 'Oustanding Master Teacher Award' / 1966 / American String Teachers Association." Bust measures approx. 12 inches tall, 19 inches with the wooden stand with the dedication panel (approx. 5 inches wide, 7 inches tall). One of an apparently very limited number of these cast by artist, this was a commissioned work and we know of only 2 other examples, including one given by ASTA to Joseph Gingold. In very fine condition.
Works by the popular artist, Gallo, are in the permanent collections of the The Whitney Museum of American Art, National Portrait Gallery, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Art Institute of Chicago, and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, among others.
