A fascinating letter from the important Italian composer, regarding one of his most famous works. Cambridge, MA, 16.9.1964. He writes in part: "What I did in 'Folk songs' becomes evident comparing the score ... and the sources which were anthologies (where usually the original text is very mystified), one record and our memory. Two of those songs are not really authentic: I composed them when I was a teenager, many and many years ago ...I appreciate that you like 'Folk Songs' even if they cannot really be considered an original composition. I wrote that score in three days watching television in the same time."
