Serafin, Tullio. (1878-1968). Early Signed Photograph. A superb large photograph of the important Italian conductor, the first important musical mentor to Maria Callas. A striking image by Bettini of Rome, boldly signed and inscribed on the mount to the Marchesa Lappelli of Bologna. Dated 1915. 19.5 X 30.5 cm.

One of the greatest Italian conductors of the 20th century, he was closely associated with both Callas and Sutherland. According to Opera Grove, without him "the postwar revival of interest in the Italian Ottocento opera and the bel canto style would have been impossible. In Gobbi's opinion he was an 'infallible judge of voice and character and an invaluable guide to young singers.'"
