Creator of several Reyer and Massenet roles, he had an enormous repetoire that included Mozart, Verdi, Berlioz, Wagner, Saint-Saens, Massenet etc. and he left a number of fine recordings. He was a regular at the Opera-Comique and also performed at Covent Garden and for several years at the Manhattan Opera and the Metropolitan.
