Glazounow, Alexander. (1865-1936). "Serenade pour Violoncelle" - Autograph Musical Quotation.
A beautiful AMQS of the important Russian composer's Serenade Espagnole for Violoncello, penned on a postcard of Turner's "The Grand Canal, Venice." Glazounow has written the first three measures of the cello part, marked Allegretto with the indication espress. He has signed below and dated December 8, 1906. The Argentinian collector, Ramona Imaz Otaño, has addressed the postcard to herself on the verso. With original Russian stamp and postmark, one slight scuff, overall in very fine condition. 5.5 x 3.5 inches (14 x 8.9 cm).

A student of Rimsky-Korsakov, the first of his nine symphonies premiered when Glazounov was only 16 years old, and due in part to the advocacy of Franz Liszt, his work soon became well known in Russia and abroad. He was an important pedagogue, professor and later Director at the St. Petersburg Conservatory.  Musical quotations of Glazounov are rather uncommon.
