Dubois, Théodore. (1837-1924). Piano Trio in C minor - Autograph Musical Quotation.
AMQS from the important French organist, composer and teacher who won the Prix de Rome in 1861 and succeeded Franck as the choirmaster of the Basilica of Sainte-Clotilde. On a postcard of Boloni's "La Maddalena," Dubois has penned the first four measures of the theme from his Piano Trio no. 1 in C minor (published in 1904). On the verso, the postcard is addressed to the Argentinian collector Ramona Imaz Otaño and postmarked March 21, 1905. Light wear to the edges; overall in fine condition. 5.5 x 3.5 inches (13.9 x 9 cm).
Already the choirmaster of the Church of the Madeleine, in 1877 Dubois succeeded Saint-Saens as the organist there. An influential teacher at the Conservatoire, he taught Paul Dukas and Florent Schmitt, among others. As a composer, he wrote operas, ballets, symphonies and oratorios - the best known of which is his "Les Sept Paroles du Christ."
