Sullivan, Maxine. (1911-1987). Two Signed Photographs. Pair of original doubleweight photographs of the American jazz vocalist and performer, signed and inscribed in blue ink. 8 x 10 inches.  The first is inscribed "Thanx for the use of that Hall / Maxine Sullivan" and exhibits slight water staining along the lower edge, a heavy crease along the left edge which also has tape remnants; the second photograph is signed simply "Flatterer! / Sullivan" and has significant holes/tears in each corner. 

From the collection of Nat Singerman, a professional photographer and co-owner of Character Arts Photo Studio in Cleveland, Ohio during the 1940's and 1950's. During this period he met and befriended many jazz legends who performed at clubs in and around Cleveland and Chicago He took many photographs of performances as well as numerous candid shots taken backstage. He also hosted jam sessions and dinners at his studio.
