One of the earliest guitar tutors to be published in the USA, this volume contains basic instructions on holding and tuning the instrument, a glossary of musical terms, several pages of scales, increasingly complex exercises and short pieces, and twelve songs in French and English with guitar accompaniments, as well as an attractive full-page engraving of a lady playing the guitar. Torp, a "professor," music publisher and piano manufacturer, issued another guitar tutor in 1834 under the title, "New and Improved Method for the Spanish Guitar."
