[Folies Bergère] Baker, Josephine. (1906–1975). Signed Photograph Collection to a Dancer at the Folies Bergère. An interesting collection of 8 original postcard photographs, 5 of which - including one from Josephine Baker - are signed and/or inscribed to Marthe Doryans, dancer and actress of the Folies Bergère who somewhat later appeared in the Jean Renoir film, La Chienne.  4 of the photographs by the celebrated photographer most closely associate with the the Parisian Caberet, Walery, and are each signed in ink additionally by him.  

Established in 1869, the Folies Bergère was at the height of its fame and popularity from the 1890s' Belle Époque through the 1920s'Années follesBaker was most noted as a singer, while in her early career she was a celebrated dancer. She was given the nicknames the "Black Venus" or the "Black Pearl", as well as the "Créole Goddess" in anglophone nations, while in France she has always been known in the old theatrical tradition as "La Baker."
