Fine original Max Eschig of Paris photograph of the composer and pianist at the keyboard,  inscribed in black ink to Jean Bedetti, the principal cellist in the Boston Symphony Orchestra at the time, "A Jean Bedetti avec ma plus sincere admiration / Très cordialement / Ax. Tansman / Boston / Janv. 1918". In fine condition, mounting remnants to verso, else fine. 3.5 x 5.5 inches (9 x 14 cm).

The Polish-born composer and pianist lived in France in the 1920s and was in the circle of Stravinsky, Ravel, Milhaud and others.  After the occupation of France, he fled to the US in 1941 and spent the years of the second world war in Hollywood. In 1948, he published "Igor Stravinsky: The Man and his Music," an extended tribute to his personal friend of that time and place, which was the first published biography of the composer.
