[Film & Theatre] Mifune. Toshiro. (1920 - 1997). Signed Samurai Photograph in "Red Beard.". Signed black and white phtogoraph of the Japanese actor who appeared in almost 170 feature films and is best known for his 16-film collaboration with filmmaker Akira Kurosawa, from 1948 to 1965, in works such as Rashomon, Seven Samurai, Throne of Blood, Yojimbo and finally, Red Beard, their last film together. Intense glossy 4.5 x 6.5 inch photograph of Mifune as "Red Beard", emphatically signed in black felt tip and in fine condition. Scarce.

Most of Mifune's contemporaries acted in several different movies throughout the year. Since Red Beard required Mifune to grow a natural beard — one he had to keep for the entirety of the film's two years of shooting — he was unable to act in any other films during the production. This put Mifune and his financially strapped production company deeply into debt, creating friction between him and Kurosawa. It was their last film together. Red Beard is also Kurosawa's last black-and-white film
