Bound collection of music from ''Li'l Abner'', the Broadway musical based on Al Capp's famous comic strip. Wildly successful, the musical comedy opened on 15 November 1956 with a run of 693 performances and subsequent nationwide tour and Hollywood film. The Tony Award-winning comedic spoof was based on the popular strip featuring Li'l Abner, a hillbilly from Dogpatch, Kentucky. With music written by Gene dePaul and lyrics by Johnny Mercer, the present volume includes 223pp. of music reproduced from the manuscript, including 54 separate musical numbers for popular songs like, ''Namely You'' sung by characters Daisy Mae and Li'l Abner and ''If I Had My Druthers'' sung by Li'l Abner and Cronies. Book is bound in red boards with ''Li'l Abner'' in gilt to front cover and spine. ''Al Capp'' is also engraved to cover in gilt, this having been his personal copy. Includes original playbill bound at beginning of book from the production with photos and bios of each of the actors. Measures 11'' x 13''. Minor wear to covers and mild toning to pages, else near fine. From the personal collection of Al Capp.
