[Film & Theatre] [Taylor, Elizabeth. (1932-2011)] Cukor, George. (1899-1983). Original Photograph with Letter on Verso.
Original photograph with charming personal letter on the verso from the American film director of "Gaslight" and "My Fair Lady." Cukor is pictured holding a bouquet of flowers with Elizabeth Taylor in a costume from "The Blue Bird," their 1976 film.

On the verso, dated June 12: "Hello Stan, Here am I - caught in the moment of greatest triumph: the EMMY. (From the intelligent aware look of me, you'd better book me in the Motion Picture County Home with the rest of the A.K?) I've had a succès fou with Virgil's bon mot about Mae and her canary. There's a clever bid! Your proteges are sure an intelligent lot. More thanks for them mags etc etc - the New Yorker, Rona's Hollywood, Celebrites, 'How to make a million' - all fascinating. Thank Jules for paying the postage too. All love, George."  With several postscripts scribbled in the corners.

Cukor won the Emmy for the TV film Love among the Ruins with Katharine Hepburn in 1975.  His 1976 film with Elizabeth Taylor, The Blue Bird, was the first joint Soviet-American production.

Slight spotting; otherwise in fine condition. 20.3 x 25.3 cm.

The American film director George Cukor mainly concentrated on comedies and literary adaptations. His career flourished at RKO and later MGM, where he directed What Price Hollywood? (1932), A Bill of Divorcement (1932), Dinner at Eight (1933), Little Women (1933), David Copperfield (1935), Romeo and Juliet (1936) and Camille (1936). He was replaced as the director of Gone with the Wind (1939), but he went on to direct The Philadelphia Story (1940), Adam's Rib (1949), Born Yesterday (1950), A Star Is Born (1954) and My Fair Lady (1964).
