A student of Reinecke and Moscheles in Leipzig, Perabo moved to Boston and led a career as a pianist, composer, and music teacher, where his most famous pupil was Amy Beach. The present virtuosic transcriptions on two or three staves, include the corresponding passages of text above the appropriate staff (for reference rather than performance). Perabo's explanatory note precedes p. 1 of first selection.
