Caruso, Enrico. (1873-1921) [Haley, Jack. (1898 - 1979)]. 1920's Victrola Record Sign from Jack Haley's Estate. A marvelous piece of Caruso/Victrola ephemera from the Estate of the American stage, radio, and film actor best known for his portrayal of the Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz.
Original double-sided metal and porcelain record store display sign, measuring 28 inches in diameter, a larger-than-life representation of Caruso's historic 1911 "Aida-Celeste Aida" recording. Solid steel without any flexibility, weighing 12 lbs, with four rivet (one missing) holes for store display. Actual raised ridges, just like a real record. Double-sided with same image on each side which allowed it to hung by wires in store and viewed by customers on both sides. Has normal edge wear and small chips, but is overall fine and very striking indeed.
Haley was a huge opera fan and this enormous "record" apparently hung in his home office for decades. After his death in 1979, the item passed to his daughter who lived in the family home until her passing in 2010, at which point this was obtained directly from her Beverly Hills Estate sale.
