Signed original Vandamm photograph of the French-American actor who found great success in American movies during the 1930s with performances in films such as The Garden of Allah, Algiers, Love Affair, and Gaslight.  The four-time Academy Award nominee has penned his name in blue to the left edge of the photograph.  Photographer's stamp to verso.  Small area of surface separation in the lower right corner where slightly torn, mounting remnants to verso, otherewise in fine condition.  7.5 x 9.5 inches (19 x 24.1 cm.).

From the collection of Paul McMahon, a critic, photographer and artist who worked for more than 13 years touring with Marlene Dietrich as the icon’s stage manager, announcer, dresser, secretary and escort, and later spent 25 years as an arts and entertainment reviewer and photographer with Gay Community News, Esplanade, Tommy’s Connection, The Mirror, Bay Windows and other publications.
