The orb pictured here predates the iconic 1963 photograph of model Simone D’Aillencourt landing in a glass bubble on the River Seine in Paris, as conceived of and taken by fashion photographer Melvin Sokolsky. Designed for a surreal Harper’s Bazaar magazine spring shoot, that plexiglass bubble was hung from a cable on a crane in various locations around Paris. It is possible the present photograph was an earlier effort along the same lines.
