[Mahler, Gustav. (1860-1911)] Mahler, Benno. (1882–1942). Portrait in Silhouette Conducting Opera, ca. 1899.
Original ca. 1899 jumbo cabinet photograph of a silhouette vignette accomplished by the composer's second cousin.  Mahler is depicted conducting the opera Der Barenhauter at the Vienna Court Opera. Photographic reproduction as part of a series of "Benno Mahler's Schattenbilder" by Photogr. Atelier H. Ephron of Vienna, and on the photographer's card. A few dings to corners and minimal surface scratches, but overall in fine condition. 7.25 x 9.75 inches (18.3 x 24.8 cm).

Der Bärenhäuter is an 1899 opera in three acts with libretto and score by Siegfried Wagner based on the German folk tale "Der Bärenhäuter" ("Bearskin"). As with most of Siegfried Wagner's operas it is more influenced by his teacher Humperdinck than his father Richard Wagner's operas.  With 177 performances on approximately 35 stages, including opera houses in England, France and Hungary, and in Vienna under the baton of Gustav Mahler, Der Bärenhäuter became the most performed opera in the 1899–1900 season.
