Cooper, Gary. (1901–1961) & Pope Pius XII. (1879–1958) & Cooper, Veronica [Sandra Shaw]. (1913–2000). "Gary Cooper con su santidad" - Original Photograph. Foto Wide World photograph of the American actor shaking hands with Pope Pius XII during a 1953 family vacation to Italy.  A Spanish-language press clipping to verso reads "His Holiness Pope Pius XII shakes the hand of famous Hollywood actor Gary Cooper, after the benediction, during an audience granted to the actor, his wife Sandra Shaw, and her sister Verónica.  The Coopers were on vacation in Italy."  Stamp to verso from the archives of the Havana-based magazine Bohemia, dated July 19, 1953.  Curiously, neither Cooper nor Shaw had a sister named Veronica, though that was Shaw's real first name.  Mounting remnants to verso, else in fine condition.  8 x 6.5 inches (20.3 x 16.5 cm.).

On June 26, 1953, while on a promotional tour for High Noon, Cooper and his family had an audience with Pope Pius XII, who left a deep impression on the actor.  Though never particularly religious himself, Cooper began to find meaning in Catholicism after meeting and marrying Veronica Balfe, who was herself a devout Catholic.  On April 9, 1959, he was formally admitted into the Catholic Church.

Revista Bohemia, often referred to simply as Bohemia, is the oldest mass market magazine in Cuba, providing commentary on politics, history, and fashion.
