Debussy, Claude. (1862-1918). Le Martyre de Saint Sébastien. Rare 1922 Excerpt from Le Figaro.. Paris: Durand. Dimanche 25 Juin, 1922. A large newspaper page (63 X 44 cm), showing the full 4-page piano reduction of the Prélude. The verso features six columns of the "Petit Courier des Arts" and of the "Petit Courier des Lettres." A very unusual example of music printing - it is difficult to imagine a contemporary music score being reproduced in a major newspaper these days!
In 1910 Debussy was commissioned to compose music for D'Annunzio's "Mystere," for the dancer Ida Rubinstein. The first performance was on May 22nd, 1911 at the Théatre du Chatelet in Paris, conducted by Caplet, with Rubinstein as the Saint, costumes and scenery by Léon Bakst and choreography by Michel Fokine.
