[Strauss II, Johann. (1825-1899)]. 1899 "Die Fledermaus" Playbill - The Composer's Final Performance. Single sheet flyer (7 x 9 inch), one half of the "divided program" (the other half was for the Court Burgtheater). A performance of Die Fledermaus, the overture conducted by the composer, 22 May, 1899.

The composer had been invited by Court Opera director Gustav to conduct this Fledermaus performance in occasion of the operetta's 25th anniversary (it was first performed on April 5, 1874). Strauss didn't feel fit enough to conduct the whole performance but agreed to lead the Ouverture (as advertised on the present program). It was on this very evening that Strauss caught a cold which led to the deadly pneumonia which claimed his life two weeks later, on June 3rd. Excellent condition, center fold, borders lightly trimmed.
