When Liszt's residence, the Hofgartnerai in Weimar, became a museum approximately one year after his death, his longtime housekeeper, Pauline Apel, continued to live there and became the official tourist guide. She remained there in this capacity until her in death in 1926 at the age of eighty-eight, after which the job was passed to her daughter.
