Karajan, Herbert von. (1908–1989). Signed 1949 Philharmonia Orchestra Beethoven Symphony #9 Program. Original program from a November 25, 1949 program of the London Philharmonia Orchestra, boldly signed by the great conductor on the page with his photograph. The program, featuring Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Walter Ludwig, Jean Watson, and Boris Christoff, included Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. According to an included insert, Rudolf Schock replaced Walter Ludwig on this evening, due to illness. 16 pp. Some light edge wear and one small internal tear; overall in fine condition, with the signed page in very fine condition.

Karajan had been closely associated with the Philharmonia Orchestra since its founding 1945, and was indeed its principal conductor in all but name until his appointment as music director of the Berlin Philharmonic in 1954.
