She Loves Me, based on the same play which inspired The Shop Around the Corner and later, You've Got Mail, is the story of Budapest shop employees Georg Nowack (Daniel Massey) and Amalia Balash (Barbara Cook) who, despite being consistently at odds with each other at work, are unaware that each is the other's secret pen pal met through lonely-hearts ads. The musical was a success and Jack Cassidy's role won him Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical in the 1964 Tony's. Composer and lyricist team Harnick and Bock went on to write Fiddler on the Roof the following year.
