Chaliapin, Feodor. (1873–1938). Original Photograph - 1922 Farewell Party. A superb and very rare original photograph from a NYC farewell party given for the great Russian bass at the end of his first U.S. visit. Chaliapin is shown in an apron and chef's hat, holding a plate and spoon aloft, and surrounded by many prominent guests. The week before this photograph was taken, on January 30, 1922, in the Victor studio, Chaliapin made his first American recordings: Varlaam's song and Boris' farewell from Boris Godunov and also Don Basilio's aria from Il Barbiere Di Siviglia. He returned to Moscow in March, but later that year, in June, he emigrated to Paris. 5 x 7 inches (13 x 18 cm).
