The African American photographer Chuck Stewart is celebrated for his cover photographs on as many as 2,000 albums of jazz, blues, bebop and salsa performers. His work has appeared in numerous publications and on the Argo, Chess, Impulse, Mercury, Reprise and Verve albums of such artists as Louis Armstrong, Ray Charles, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Billie Holiday, Charles Mingus, Max Roach, Sonny Rollins, Sarah Vaughan, Dinah Washington and others. In conjunction with Stewart's recognition with the Milt Hinton Award for Excellence in Jazz Photography, Jazz at Lincoln Center presented an exhibition titled Looking at the Music: The Jazz Photography of Chuck Stewart, which ran from November 2008 to February 2009.
