Five letters, four autograph and one typed, from the American composer, conductor and arranger to the founder of Playboy Magazine. [Northridge, California] 2 May, 1960 - September, 1962. Together with 5 carbon copies of response letters from Hefner (unsigned). Some letters stapled together, usual folds, the Hefner letters rather browned.



The composer discusses the new Playboy theme music and a missed party at the Playboy mansion. About the party, Mancini writes "I saw Rosemary Clooney the day after and she was still incoherent, but she managed to get out a few words that added up to one helluva party." Another letter mentions the success of "Moon River" and "Breakfast at Tiffany's."



Best remembered for his film and television scores (Pink Panther, "Moon River" (Breakfast at Tiffany's) etc.), Mancini won a record number of Grammy Awards, plus a posthumous Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1995.
