Carafa, Michele. (1787–1872). "Gia la notte s'avvicina" - Autograph Musical Quotation.
Uncommon autograph musical quotation from the Italian opera composer, who has penned a detailed musical quotation for piano and voice with the text "Gia la notte s'avvicina..." and dated Paris, January 11, 1855. While we have not been able to identify the work from which the quotation is taken, the text is an excerpt from Metastasio's Cantate, also set by Beethoven and Rossini. In very fine condition. 9.75 x 6.75 inches (25 x 17 cm).

The Italian opera composer was born in Naples and studied in Paris with Luigi Cherubini. He was Professor of Counterpoint at the Paris Conservatoire from 1840 to 1858.
