Typed letter signed in German from Julius Kopsch, the secretary of the Permanent Council for International Co-operation between Composers, to Italian composer Gian Francesco Malipiero (October 3, 1934; 1 p.), informing him that Richard Strauss, the president of the council, would like to recommend one of Malipiero's pieces for the Hamburg International Music Festival. With a typed translation of the letter into Italian. Annotations have been made in red pencil. Toning; edges worn; overall very good. 8.5 x 11.5 inches (22 x 29.5 cm). Together with an envelope addressed in Julius Kopsch's hand to Aldo Noseda.
Translated from the German: "Dear Herr Malipiero! I was delighted to receive your kind letter of September 27. I can repeat today that Dr. Richard Strauss, with whom I had an opportunity to speak during preparations for the Hamburg International Music Festival, would very much like to recommend a work of yours for the festival, and has already put your name into a temporary draft of the program which he is working out. The final decision will rest with the hosts, i.e. the city of Hamburg, when the complete program can be assessed. We must note officially that according to the rules of our committee, the representative of each country presents a list of works which are considered "representative" of the contemporary music of that country. It would therefore be advisable if you could be in contact with our friend Lualdi, so that he can include your name in his list of suggestions, which he certainly will be willing to do. I hope that our connection will remain lively and send you my friendly and admiring wishes. Yours, Kopsch."
