Original Madeline Winkler photograph of the great cellist in performance with his instrument, inscribed by the cellist to the lower mount "To Steve Juscik / with my warm wishes! / Pierre Fournier / 1979." Photographer's stamp to verso of photograph.  Surface creasing to lower left corner of backing board, photograph in very fine condition.  Mounted to 6.25 x 9 inches (15.9 x 22.9 cm.).

Fournier was known in his lifetime as "the aristocrat of cellists," because of his fine lyrical playing and for his impeccable artistic sensitivity. Virgil Thomson wrote in the New York Herald Tribune, "I do not know his superior among living cellists, nor any...who give one more profoundly the feeling of having been present at music-making."
