Farrell, Eileen. (1920-2002). Signed Photograph as Leonora in "La forza del destino".
Signed Louis Mélançon of New York photograph of the American soprano, who has inscribed "To Paul / Eileen Farrell" in black to the upper left, in costume as Leonora for a production of Verdi's La forza del destino.  Metropolitan Opera Press Department label and photographer's stamp to verso.  Mounting remnants to verso, overall in fine condition.  8 x 10 inches (20.3 x 25.4 cm.).  Together with a typewritten press note previously mounted to verso.

Farrell was known for having "one of the largest and most radiant operatic voices of the 20th century" (NPR), and performed in concert for nearly 60 years.  Though she performed in stage productions occasionally, she was much better known for her concerts and appearances on radio and television.

From the collection of Paul McMahon, a critic, photographer and artist who worked for more than 13 years touring with Marlene Dietrich as the icon’s stage manager, announcer, dresser, secretary and escort, and later spent 25 years as an arts and entertainment reviewer and photographer with Gay Community News, Esplanade, Tommy’s Connection, The Mirror, Bay Windows and other publications.
