Gingold, Josef. (1909–1995). International Violin Competition of Indianapolis - Signed Poster.
An unusual signed poster from the violinist who has inscribed this Indianapolis September 1994 poster with a dedication in gold pen and signed "Uncle Joe." 20" x 13" (Sight). 25" x 18" (Frame). Matted with a linen in a black metal sectional frame with glass. Unexamined out of frame but in apparently fine condition, wired and ready to hang. From the collection of Thomas J. Beczkiewicz, Founding Director of the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis. 

A student of Ysaye, Gingold was the first to perform Ysaye's 3rd Sonata for Solo Violin.  Later, he lead the Cleveland Orchestra under George Szell and taught at the Indiana School of Music, where his pupils included - among many others - Joshua Bell, Miriam Fried, Leonidas Kavakos, Jaime Laredo and Joseph Silverstein. The Indianapolis was launched in 1982 under the artistic leadership of Gingold to discover major violin talent and nurture the careers of those identified. In 1994, the year of this poster, artistic leadership passed to one of his most well-known pupils, Jaime Laredo, who retains the title of Jury President to this day
