Opus 16. Engraved. [PN] 3515. Illustrated title, 2 - 11. Linen-taped at spine edge, otherwise very good. "Performed by the composer 'for the first time' in New Orleans, 13 Mar 1855 (Le Courrier de la Louisiane). The initial publication had little commercial success. Firth & Pond was glad to sell the copyright to William Hall, Gottschalk's new publisher, who brought out a revised edition in 1856...The Last Hope - the title refers to the solace of music to those in distress - under the skilled hands of the composer, achieved a popularity similar to that of Paderewski's Minuet in modern times." (Doyle) D - 80.
