Borodine, Aleksandre. (1883-1887). Deuxieme Symphonie (Si mineur) Pour Orchestre.. St. Petersbourg: W. Bessel & Cie. . [ca. 1880]. First edition. Partition d'Orchestre. Edition redigée par N. Rimsky-Korsakoff et. A. Glazounoff. 4to. 156 pp. [PN] 671. Original grey publisher's wrappers, heavily chipped and torn, repaired with tape, and loose from folio. Internally very clean and in good condition, with some chipping at bottom right corner of pages. A very rare copy of this symphony, reissued from the plates of the first edition (ca. 1877), in this edition revised by Rimsky-Korsakov and Glazunov.

Originally composed between 1869 - 1876, it received it's premiere in 1877 in a performance conducted by Eduard Napravnik, but met with indifferent reception. After some minor re-orchestration, it was performed again in 1879 at the Free Music School under the directon of Rimsky-Korsakoff and was better received. To this day, it remains perhaps the most well-known symphony by any member of the Mighty Five.
