The Clarinet Quintet, one of the great works of woodwind literature, was composed at Ischl during the summer of 1891 and first performed privately by Richard Mühlfeld and the Joachim Quartet at Meiningen on November 24. The first public concert performance was given by the same players on December 12, 1891.
