Schumann, Robert. (1810–1856); Fantin-Latour, Henry. (1836–1904); Bazille, Frederic. (1841–1870); Maitre, Edmond. (1840–1898). Two First Editions bound with a Hand-signed Lithograph by Latour and with Highly Interesting Provenance. A fascinating volume including a signed work by Henri Fantin-Latour (1836 - 1904), and two Schumann first editions, signed by prominent members of Latour's circle. The first Schumann work is signed by both the musician, Edmond Maitre and the artist, Frederic Bazille (1841 - 1870). Bazille, who was killed in action in the Franco-Prussian War at the age of 29, had an atelier at 9, rue de la Condamine, a painting of which, 'Studio in the rue de la Condamine' (1870), can be seen at the Musee d'Orsay. The work depicts Edmond Maitre together with his fellow artists Renoir, Monet and Manet, as well as Emile Zola. Latour's famous "Un taller en las Batignolles" - also found at the Musee d'Orsay - depicts both Bazille and Maitre together with Manet, Scholderer, Renoir, Astruc, Zola and Monet.
