Webern, Anton. (1883 - 1945). Geistlicher Volkstext, Op. 17 No. 2. [New Music Quarterly, October 1930]. New York: New Music. October, 1930. First edition. A scarce first edition (6 pp.) by Webern, the first of very few European works to appear in the quarterly magazine of modern compositions, founded by Henry Cowell and first issued in 1927. "Opus 17 was a property of Universal Edition, but it had not been published previously. A receipt in the New Music papers indicates that Cowell paid Webern $100 on October 23, 1930 - possibly for publishing rights." (Rita H. Mead, "The Amazing Mr. Cowell," American Music Vol. 1, No. 4, p. 81)

Also in this issue are "36" by Carlos Chavez (4 pp) and "Sonate for Flute and Viola" by Adolph Weiss (8 pp). Wrappers have been trimmed along top margin, repaired with tape at spine and top margin of music is heavily chipped. Otherwise clean internally.
