[École normale de musique de Paris]. 1925 Postcard Photograph of Faculty including Casals, Cortot, Thibaud, Landowska, Hahn, Boulanger and others.
Unusual postcard of École normale de musique de Paris from June 1925 (date in printed caption), depicting some of the illustrious teaching staff.  The group photo includes Alfred Cortot, Reynaldo Hahn, Pablo Casals, Jacques Thibaud, Maurice Emmanuel, Marcel Dupré, Wanda Landowska, Hyatt, and Claire Croiza.  Headshots of further teachers are added as vignettes—Isidor Philipp, Ninon Vallin, Max d'Ollone, Nadia Boulanger, Lazare Lévy.  All of these are identified in the printed caption to the foot of the image.  A further caption, sideways to the right, advertises interpretation courses offered by Vincent d'Indy, Paul Dukas, Maurice Ravel and Albert Roussel, and violin classes by Thibaud.  The school's director, M. A. Mangeot, is listed as a contact person.  Notes in French in an unknown hand to verso.  Oblong format, 3.75 x 5.5 inches (9.3 x 14 cm).  Foxed; else in good condition.

Alfred Cortot founded the École normal de musique in 1919 as a private counterpart to the Paris Conservatoire.  Its best known American alumnus is probably Elliott Carter.
