Hofmann, Josef. (1876-1957) & Lambert, Alexander. (1863 - 1929). Signed Photograph . Crisp original Mishkin photograph of two Polish-American keyboard giants, seated together on the edge of a couch. Lambert has inscribed "To Sig. Kahn - who, although he does not like my cigars, I hope he likes his good friend / A. Lambert / 1921," with Hofmann adding opposite "Yours sincerely, Josef Hofmann." In pristine condition, a remarkable example. 11.5 x 16 cm. [4.5 x 6.5 inches].

Polish pianist, Alexander Lambert toured with Joachim and was encouraged early on by both Rubinstein and Moszkowski who arranged for him to stufy with Liszt in Weimar. A major soloist, he later became an important teacher and was director of the New York College of Music for 18 years. The inscription is to Siegfried H. Kahn, a member of the famed New York Bohemian Club and a famous host of musical parties in the 1920s and 30s.
