Rosenthal, Moriz. (1862–1946). Signed Photograph with Interesting Letter on verso. Scarce original Mishkin postcard photograph of the great pianist, signed and dated 21 April, 1933 across a hand-drawn musical staff below the image. On the verso, Rosenthal has penned a short but interesting letter, in full: "Dear friend Adler, I understand fully the bad situation in U.S.A. and decided not to come this season. At the N.B.C. works Levine, the brother of Lewitzky, who scarcely answers my letters. Meanwhile I had the greatest success in London and this may open the ways to New York." Very fine. 9 x 14 cm.
The great Polish pianist, Moriz Rosenthal, studied with Liszt for 9 years and was one of the most important pianists of the late 19th and first half of the 20th century. A regular sonata partner of Fritz Kreisler, he toured frequently and left some fantastic recordings.
