Dvorák, Antonin Leopold. (1841–1904). Original CDV Photograph.
Original carte de visite photograph of the important Czech composer, photographed by Negretti & Zambra of Crystal Palace, London, ca. 1884. A few light spots, but overall in very fine condition. 2.5 x 4 inches (6.3 x 10.3 cm).
Dvorak's first visit to England came in 1884, when he was invited to conduct the London Philharmonic Society to great acclaim. He returned in April of the following year to conduct the premiere of his Symphony no. 7, written for the occasion, and again in August to present his cantata The Spectre's Bride. Dvorak's work became instantly popular in England, and he made at least eight trips there in total.
