[Beethoven, Ludwig van. (1770–1827)] Klemperer, Otto. (1885–1973). Group of 1960 Wiener Festwochen Concert Programs.
Group of concert programs from the 1960 Wiener Festwochen, where Otto Klemperer conducted the Philharmonia Orchestra of London in a series of Beethoven concerts. The group includes programs from the first, second, third and fifth concerts of the five-concert cyle, together with program notes and ticket stubs with each program and a brochure giving details about the complete cycle. The collector has made notes on the verso of two of the ticket stubs, one reading: "Tonite I met Klemperer backstage. He is very ill & was exhausted by happy after the excellent concert. He seemed please to meet me when I was introduced. I told him I'd waited a long time in NY & then come to Vienna. He enjoyed that & replied that he wasn't able to come to NY this year, perhaps next year. He extended his hand again & I left. He seemed genuinely happy that I had come. I believe his illness shows in his writing & he signs no autographs." A note on the verso of the last ticket stub reads: "Met Klemperer again tonite after wonderful concert. Mike Wolfson cried after concert." Fine. Each program 6 x 8.25 inches (15 x 21 cm).
