Munch, Charles. (1891–1968). Signed Photograph. Signed portrait of the French (Alsatian) conductor in profile by Geoffrey Landesman, Cleveland.  Inscribed to Paul McMahon.  10 x 8 inches (25.3 x 20.3 cm).  In fine condition.

In the United States, Munch is best remembered for his tenure as Music Director of the Boston Symphony from 1949 to 1962.  He invited Pierre Monteux, one of his predecessors there, to guest-conduct, which had no precedent at the orchestra and established a new tradition.

From the collection of Paul McMahon, a critic, photographer and artist who worked for more than 13 years touring with Marlene Dietrich as the icon’s stage manager, announcer, dresser, secretary and escort, and later spent 25 years as an arts and entertainment reviewer and photographer with Gay Community News, Esplanade, Tommy’s Connection, The Mirror, Bay Windows and other publications.
