Planté, Francis. (1839 - 1934). Visiting Card with Autograph Note. Signed black-bordered visiting card, inscribed with a note from the influential French pianist, to a younger musician, apparently a godchild of his. Translated in full: "My dear EX - "little godchild"! I had already heard of your great success before your very tender letter which touched me profoundly. Nobody, know with confidence, after your dearly loved father, could rejoice more sincerely than your old friend Francis Planté." 3.75 x 2 inches (9.7 x 5.4 cm).

One of the first ever recording artists and, apart from Chopin, probably France's most important pianist in the nineteenth century. A pupil of Marmontel, he started his performing career at age 7 and knew Liszt, Berlioz, Rossini, Gounod, Mendelssohn, Thalberg and Widor and even heard Chopin play!
